MEET REV. DR. IOSMAR ALVAREZ

Episcopal Candidate for SEJUMC

Iosmar Alvarez emigrated to the U.S. from Cuba with the American dream of a lucrative job, a nice house, and church attendance on Sunday. When he arrived in the U.S. in 2001, God called him to lead and serve among the Hispanic people. He has served as the lead pastor of Fuente de Avivamiento in Lexington, Ky., CEO of Disciple 21 Church Planting Network, and is now the District Superintendent in Lexington, Ky. His goal is to plant 2500 churches by 2028, using traditional and non-traditional methods, to make disciples for Christ.

Church Multiplication

Church multiplication happens when a church experiences positive church health and collaboration. We need to grow the church in 21st century. The church needs to become relevant again. And we can do that not by relying on internal church growth but by the multiplication of churches through extension and expansion.

Collaboration not Competition

Collaboration is an important passion for Rev. Dr. Alvarez. We all have to discover our gifts and graces, connect those to the church and compliment each other within the church, outside the church, and with other churches. We cannot compete with each other so we can impact the community for Christ.

Church Health and Systems of Discipleship

One of Rev. Dr. Alvarez’s passions is church health. For him, this means making disciples and creating systems of discipleship in the local church and assisting the local church in gathering, recruit, and training people to implement these systems of discipleship.
